The Food Recovery Network here at Weber State donates surplus food from dining services to the Lantern House and Weber Cares Pantry. The Food Recovery Network has a lot of impact on not only waste, but also food insecurity within campus and the community. Over the course of the 2022 academic year, the Food Recovery Network recovered 1,810 lbs. of food, the equivalent of 1,500 meals, from the campus dining services that was donated to the Lantern House. 

As a volunteer, you will assist with packaging food for transport and loading the vehicle. 

Below are the following forms needed to participate in this event. Volunteers are unable to participate without filling out all 3 steps!

  1. Sign-up through Givepulse
  2. Fill out the Weber State Volunteer link here. You will be directed to a page with a drop down bar. Select "Sustainability Volunteer" and fill out the basic information that we will need in case of an emergency. This is required by the university and is necessary for participation. 
  3. Lastly, when you arrive at the event, there will be a photo release and waiver form for participants to sign.


  1. You can park at the Dee Event Center and ride the OGX to the Shepherd Union building for free
  2. You can park in W4 and W5 lots or on Harrison Blvd and walk to the Shepherd Union building

Requirement Details

Wondering if you should register to volunteer? Based on the CDC guidelines, we are asking you the following questions: (If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, we ask you not to register. We are doing all we can to align with best practices and keep our community healthy.)

  1. Have you been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19? See the CDC’s risk assessment guidance.

  2. Do you have symptoms consistent with COVID-19? Symptoms can include a cough or shortness of breath or at least two of the following: Fever, Chills, Repeated shaking with chills, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat, New loss of taste or smell. See the CDC’s symptom information.
All volunteers who participate will receive a $15 gift card to Smith's! Students who participate in the most service hours and events with the Sustainable Clubs will have the chance to be nominated for a sustainability award in April.
Parking Details
If you need somewhere to park during the recovery, parking is free at the Dee Events Center and you can ride a shuttle to campus or just park along Harrison Blvd and walk. If you wish to park closer, there is a Public Pay parking lot that I can meet you at and give you a parking pass for. The Public Pay lot is located at 3848 Harrison Blvd, Ogden, UT 84403.
