12th Annual WSU Service Day of Remembrance

This event is hosted by the Center for Community Engaged Learning during Homecoming Week for all students, community members, faculty, and staff to serve the community in honor of someone who has passed away or for those who embody service in the community.

This event qualifies as an eligible Service Leave activity under PPM 3-66.
Eligible WSU employees, please communicate with your supervisor for approval to participate.


Project 1: "Homes Made Safer" & "Wildfire Home Visit" with American Red Cross of Northern Utah

Interested volunteers must attend a mandatory training at Weber State prior to participating in these two vital programs: Homes Made Safer and Wildfire Home Visits. Following this training, volunteers will travel on provided transportation to neighborhoods within Ogden City to educate households on fire safety. If interested and eligible, households may allow volunteers to install free smoke alarms, give assessments on wildfire management, and teach about how to "Be Red Cross Ready".

**Volunteers interested in this project must commit to the whole time (training and off-campus volunteer site).**

Mandatory Training Time & Location: 

  • Time: 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: Shepherd Union room 301 (Ogden Campus)

Location of Off-Campus Volunteer Sites with Time Commitment: 

  • Time: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
  • Locations: Likely in Ogden City. More information will be shared when homes are identified by the Red Cross.

Requirement Details

Volunteers must attend the mandatory training from 1-2pm in the Shepherd Union Building BEFORE going into the community to provide the emergency preparedness assessments with eligible homes.

Parking Details
Volunteers will park at designated parking spots associated with their current standing with the university (paid parking passes, free parking at the Dee Events Center, public transportation, etc.). Off-campus opportunities do not have parking restrictions except those defined by the state law and the organization site's rules.
